Key Performance Metrics
Understanding OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness)
OEE is a widely used metric for measuring manufacturing productivity:
OEE = Availability ร Performance ร Quality
๐ธ Screenshot needed: OEE calculation breakdown visual
Availability
What it measures: Is the equipment running when it should be?
Availability = (Planned Production Time - Downtime) / Planned Production Time
Example:
- Shift: 8 hours (480 minutes)
- Breaks: 30 minutes (planned)
- Downtime: 45 minutes (unplanned)
- Available time: 480 - 30 = 450 minutes
- Availability = (450 - 45) / 450 = 90%
๐ธ Screenshot needed: Availability calculation with visual timeline
Performance
What it measures: Is the equipment running at its optimal speed?
Performance = (Ideal Cycle Time ร Total Parts) / Available Time
Example:
- Ideal cycle time: 60 seconds per part
- Parts produced: 360
- Available time: 405 minutes (24,300 seconds)
- Performance = (60 ร 360) / 24,300 = 89%
๐ธ Screenshot needed: Performance calculation with chart
Quality
What it measures: How many parts are good on first pass?
Quality = Good Parts / Total Parts
Example:
- Total parts: 360
- Scrap: 12
- Rework: 8
- Good parts: 360 - 12 - 8 = 340
- Quality = 340 / 360 = 94%
๐ธ Screenshot needed: Quality calculation with defect breakdown
Overall OEE
Complete Example:
OEE = 90% ร 89% ร 94% = 75.4%
OEE Reference Ranges:
- < 65%: Below average - significant improvement needed
- 65-75%: Industry average - room for improvement
- 75-85%: Good - keep optimizing
- 85-95%: World-class - maintain excellence
- > 95%: Outstanding - share your practices!
